We all know about the magic of pumpkin patches and the apple picking! Wear your coziest sweater, wrap yourself in an impossibly large scarf, and get down with the fall vibes — or just get yourself a Pumpkin Spice Latte and live your best life! If you’re looking for some other autumnal date ideas, here’s a bit of inspiration:

  • Day Trip to the McMichael Gallery - We love fall foliage, and some of the best on display are actually found in the paintings of the Group of Seven and other Canadian artists at this gem of a gallery. The McMichael Gallery is a half-hour drive north of Toronto in Kleinberg. It has a lovely little cafe and lots of nearby walking trails. You can catch the Art Bus from downtown Toronto directly to the gallery until the end of the month.

  • High Park - If you prefer your nature up close and personal, you can’t beat High Park. Explore the beautiful changing leaves and wildlife (and dog life!) to your heart’s content. Bonus points if you grab a couple of warm beverages for your urban trek… It’s getting chilly out there!

  • Horror Movies at The Revue - Any excuse to go the The Revue! This charming cinema on Roncesvalles has curated a list of scary movies all month long. The Witches of Eastwick, Bride of Frankenstein, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, Halloween III: Season of the Witch… Take your pick, grab your favourite Halloween candy (popcorn counts!), and get spooked in a good way!  (https://revuecinema.ca/schedule/)

  • Handing Out Candy - This might be polarizing, but it's kind of cute to hand out candy with someone lovely on Halloween. Trick or Treaters are adorable and it's a chance for you to flex your costuming skills. A witch hat is fine, too. Start off the evening by (carefully) carving a Jack-o-lantern and end the evening with roasting pumpkin seeds to snack on while watching classic Treehouse of Horror episodes. If you don't live in a neighbourhood populated with tiny candy scavengers, head out to a friend's place and offer to pitch in!

  • Festivals Galore - Cask Days for the beer-enthused, Toronto International Festival of Authors for us bookworms, Hot Docs Podcast Festival for live podcasts , TED X Toronto for all of the lifelong learners and Ontario Culture Days for a huge variety of interesting events and experiences, just to name a few.

Now get out there and enjoy the fall weather before you turn back into a pumpkin (or until winter ice and snow descends — whichever comes first)!
